High court has given Assets Recovery Agency orders to preserve a luxurious car belong to controversial businessman Jared Otieno pending investigations as to whether it is a proceed of crime.
Justice Joseph Onyiego also ordered Otieno to surrender the registration documents for the KCU 966C Bentley Continental GT 2019 to the Agency for safe custody.
“A caveat shall be placed by NTSA in respect of motor vehicle KCU 966 C (Bentley) pending further investigations subject to expiry of the preservation period”, ordered Onyiego.
However, the judge declined to issue orders to preserve Otieno’s other luxurious vehicle (Porsche Panamera 2015).
The ARA had applied to the two cars preserved on suspicion that they are proceeds of crime.
The businessman is charged alongside 14 other persons with obtaining Sh 300 million from a foreigner (Director of Simuong group of companies) in fake gold trade.
Justice Onyiego directed that the Bentley remains in police custody at the nearest police station possible or as the Assets Recovery Agency may determine.
