High Court Judge James Wakiaga will now preside over the murder case against TV journalist Jacque Maribe and her fiancé Joseph Irungu alias Jowie.

Wakiaga takes over from Justice Jessie Lesiit who directed the matter to be tried in a different court in the same division since she has other matters before her.

When the matter was mentioned today before Judge Wakiaga, he directed the parties to appear before him on Wednesday 24th for the hearing of the bail application.

The couple was charged with the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani on 15th October where they denied the same.

The DPP and Monica’s family want them denied bail.

Maribe is requesting to be released on bail pending the hearing and determination of the matter on grounds that she is the provider of her 4 year old son.

Through her lawyer Katwa Kigen, she says that she is not at flight risk as she is a known media personality at and as such would easily be spotted.

Monica is aid to have been killed on 19th September at Lamuria Gardens Apartments in Kilimani, Nairobi. Her body was found in a bathtub with running water, her throat slit and hands tied behind her back.

The DPP argues that the two may interfere with investigations and intimidate witnesses if released on bail.

The judge also warned the media against publishing/reporting on any information linked to the death of Monica and is not before the court.
