Man alleged to be a broker of an international firm working with the Immigration Department has been charged with attempted murder of a traffic police officer in Industrial Area.

Geoffrey Sungura Wekesa is accused of intentionally and unlawfully attempting to cause the death of officer Henry Kemboi by hitting and injuring him with his Toyota saloon registration number KAR 054G.

Wekesa is alleged to have committed the offense which was caught on CCTV has been circulating on social media on 24th October 2017 at around 11 am along Likoni Road in Industrial Area within Nairobi County.

The accused who is also a neighbor of the complainant denied the charges before Milimani Law courts Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi.

Through Lawyer Peter Wakiaga, the accused pleaded with the court to release him on lenient bond terms on grounds that he is currently a single parent since the wife left him and the children after the incident.

Magistrate Andayi released him on a bond Sh 1 Million and one surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Sh 500,000.

It is alleged that the accused attempted to kill the officer after finding out that he has been having an affair with his wife.

Wekesa ‘investigated’ the allegations of his wife cheating on him with their neighbor and one day he caught them ‘in the act’.

It is alleged that Wekesa and Kemboi engaged in a fist fight and afterwards he reported the matter to the police.

After the attempted death on him, Kemboi went ahead to report the matter to the police but no effort was made to arrest the accused person.

It is alleged that Wekesa used his influence to stop his arrest and when Kemboi tried to follow up on the matter, was given an immediate transfer to Turkana.

With the efforts of his lawyer, the accused was arrested on 3rd November 2017 and presented before court to answer to the charges.

The case will be mentioned on 20th November and will be heard on 6th December 2017.
