A businessman has been charged with assaulting his ex-wife causing her actual body harm after she went to collect her child from him on a father’s day.

Francis Ngugi is alleged to have beaten Carolyn Wanjiku injuring her body at Zimmerman Estate on June 18th at around 2.30 pm.

The suspect is said to have picked his child at the complainant’s house following an agreement at Kasarani children’s department.

In the agreement, Ngugi having separated with the complainant had been allowed to see the child every weekend.

According to the police, when Wanjiku went to pick up  the minor, the accused came out of his house furious and asked why she was demanding for the child knowing that it was a father’s day.

The accused told her to go away and leave him with the child until late in the evening but Wanjiku insisted.

Her persistence made the suspect more furious and pulled her out of her car and started kicking her with blows and fists.

She screamed for help after the suspect had pulled her on the ground and she was bleeding from her nose. Wanjiku was saved by good Samaritans who helped her get medical attention before reporting the matter to the police.

Ngugi denied the charges before chief magistrate Heston Nyaga and was released on a cash bail of Sh10, 000. The case will be heard on October 11.
