The Operations Manager at Equity bank Moyale branch who has been in custody over the theft of Sh 42 million has been charged with robbery with violence.

Roba Boru Diba is accused of robbing Nelson Kipngetich Langat of Wells Fargo limited who was escorting the said cash property of Equity Bank and immediately before or after the time of such robbery threatened to shoot the said Nelson.

He is alleged to have commited the offence on 11th September 2019 at ODDA Airstrip in Moyale jointly with others not before court while armed with a pistol.

The accused denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Kenneth Cheruiyot and was granted a cash bail of Sh 1.5 million.

The court ordered that the complainant (now state witness), who was being detained together with Diba to allow police to complete investigations to be released as he is still in custody.

Through his lawyer, Diba told the court to grant him lenient bond/bail terms on grounds that he has a fixed abode.

The court further heard that the accused is a husband to two wives with five children, all aged below 10 years.

The lawyer added that his client’s alleged involvement in the offence is very remote since as a manager, he is said to have been negligent.

He further submitted that the manager has willingly assisted police in their investigations.

The court granted the accused a bond of Sh 3 million or alternative cash bail of Sh 1.5 million. He was further ordered to provide one surety of the same standing as him.

The case will be heard on 4th November 2019.
