Six detained after being arrested with gold suspected to be fake

A Nairobi Court has issued detention orders of six suspects arrested on Wednesday 15th with suspected fake gold for three days.

Senior Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe directed that the suspects, who were arrestes by fly squad officer in Kilimani area, Nairobi, be detained at Kilimani Police Station pending completion of investigations.

The suspects among them foreigners are Grace Wairimu Machatha, Erascos Katiku Josiah , Niyitegeka Sevelin, Dushimirimana Egide, Zilimwabagabu Jacrues and Ngaragura Emmanuel.

According to the Investigating officer, Alpha Ochieng, this is a case of being in possession of fake gold nuggets contrary to section 203 of Mining Act No. 12 of 2016 laws of Kenya.

“Flying squad officers acting on information from members of the public went to Lenana 51 apartments along Lenana Road within Kilimani area yesterday and managed to arrest all the six suspects,” said the Investigator.

The court heard that the suspects will lead the investigating team to apprehend other suspects who are still at large and are believed to be hiding within Nairobi and other towns.

He said they intend to contact more witnesses who have probably been defrauded by the suspects using fake gold nuggets.

The police also intend to visit the immigration office to confirm whether Niyitegeka Sevelin, Dushimirimana Egide, Zilimwabagabu Jacrues and Ngaragura Emmanuelare in the country illegally.

According to the affidavit by the investigating officer, the suspects are at flight risk if released on bond or bail or will interfere with investigation.
