Two robbery with violence suspects have been charged in Nairobi after escaping from lawful custody on their way to Prison.

Amos Wanyoike Wanjiru and James Kamau are alleged to have jumped out of a police lorry on Friday 5th while on transit to Nairobi Area Remand Prison.

They denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku of Milimani law courts.

The suspects were each shot and wounded before they were caught near Wakulima market along Haile Selassie Avenue.

The two are among 19 other suspects facing robbery with violence charges in different courts including Ruiru, Thika and Murang’a.

The police want the court to deny them bail stating that they are likely to abscond trial.

However the court directed the investigating officer to swear and affidavit formerly opposing the release of the two on bail and appear in court on July 10th.

Police constables Michael Njunguna, John Macharia and Zacharia Keya who were escorting the suspects have recorded statements with DCI.
