Thika man who stabbed his children to death remanded for 14 days

Court has detained a man suspected to have killed his two children in Thika for 14 days pending completion of investigations.

James Kioho Wanjiku is alleged to have stabbed his two children aged seven years and two and a half years in their home in kiganjo area of Thika in Kiambu County.

Resident Magistrate Sinkiyian Tobiko issued the order after the police produced the suspect in court under a miscellaneous application seeking to detain him further in order to complete investigations.
Kioho was arrested yesterday at Kiganjo and later detained at Makongeni Police station.
According to the police, they are yet to record statements of key witnesses, make recoveries of any and type the file to be forwarded to the state counsel for perusal and advise to determine the charges to be preferred against the suspect.
The suspect will be detained at makongeni police station and will be produced in court again on 15th January 2018.
The 32 year old is alleged to have attempted suicide suicide after the heinous act but survived and was taken to hospital.
Kioho is said to have stabbed his innocent babies on the chest until they were no more before taking poison.

Quarrel with wife

The suspect’s inhumane act is alleged to have been triggered by a quarrel with his wife whom he had left at their rural home in Laikipia County.
It is alleged that the man called his wife and told her that he would kill himself and the children.
Neighbours told the dailies that they heard the children wailing and suspected they were being attacked.
They said that the boy was wailing painfully while calling on his mother  while the baby pleaded with his father to stop.
He had locked the house from inside and by the time we broke in, it was too late.
Neighbours added that the suspect had placed a lit gas cylinder under the bed with the intension to set the house ablaze while inside
