Political blogger Kitovoto Mutinda has been charged with publishing false information about Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi.
Mutinda is accused of publishing the false information through a write-up account Kinuko 96.5 FM to wit “MP Mulyungi secret millions: The truth behind Kitui tender scandal”, silence and scandal: why Kitui’s MCAs are ignoring their own corruption” on Kitui Leaders council whatsapp group, with intent that the data shall be considered or acted upon authentic.
In addition the blogger is said to have published information to wit, “MP Mulyungi secret millions: The truth behind Kitui tender scandal”, silence and scandal: why Kitui’s MCAs are ignoring their own corruption” on Proposed Mwingi Municipality whatsapp group, with intent that the data be considered or acted upon as authentic.
Mutinda is also alleged to have published “the 26 million question: where did Kitui’s public funds really go? a house of cards: the illegal tender that could bring down Kitui’s assembly…he labelled Mulyungi as enemy to development..” on Mwingi Political Forum authentic. WhatsApp group, with intent that the data shall be considered or acted upon.
According to the charge sheet, the accused person also intentionally published false information through his whatsapp account to wit “Mulyungi was bribed and he don’t know what to do say, he is lacking a word to mention camel herders who paid bribed him, he is between the rock and a hard surface *camels must leave..” on Kitui leaders council whatsapp group, with intent that the data shall be considered or acted upon as authentic
The blogger is alleged to have committed the offense on 9th August and 8th September 2024.
He denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego.
Mutinda was granted a bond of Sh 500,000 with alternative cash bail of Sh 250,000.
The case will be mentioned on 3rd September for pre-trial.
