Cameroonian national charged over Sh 3.3M gold fraud

A Cameroonian national has been charged with defrauding a businesswoman over Sh 3 million for 20Kgs of gold.

Fabonou Wassou Joseph De-Dieu alias Joseph Kabongo Malika is accused of obtaining USD 26,000 ( apprx Sh 3,358,160) from Hayet Amri by falsely pretending that he was in a position to sell to her a gold consignment weighing 20 kilogram from Kenya to Dubai, a fact he knew to be false.

De-Dieu is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 1st May and 9th August 2024 at Kileleshwa area within Nairobi.

He denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi.

The case was handed over to another court where the prosecution made an application to oppose his release on bail.
