A Canadian citizen has been charged with Sh 46 million fraud after allegedly failing to invest the money for an American businessman in a World Food Programme project.
Phillip William Knight is accused of obtaining USD 357,300 from Casey Drew Cian by falsely pretending that he was in a position to invest his money for profit in projects namely World Food Programme and Sunshine Minerals Limited, a fact he knew to be false.
Knight is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 27th September and 26th October 2024 within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before court, with intent to defraud.
In addition, the accused person faces several other charges of forging documents.
According to the charge sheet, on 30th September 2024 at unknown place within the Republic of Kenya with intent to defraud Cain of USD 357,300, Knight made a false letter for project number WPP/0100/2023 purporting it to be a genuine letter from United Nations World Food Programme, a fact he knew to be false.
Other documents the accused person alleged forged include a World Food Programme invoice, cash receipt, NGO Filed level agreement among others.
Knight denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego.
He will spend the night in custody as the court is set to deliver his bail terms on 28th March 2025.
