CIC General Insurance Marketing Executive Officer charged with insurance fraud

A CIC General Insurance Limited Marketing Executive Officer has been charged with insurance fraud of over Sh 191,000.

Evans Mungai Kariuki is accused of obtaining Sh 104,531 being Insurance Premiums, through three Equity Bankers Cheques in the names of CIC Insurance from Ngara Market Fruits & Vegetable Welfare Group by falsely pretending that he was in a position procure and initiate for them a Mepip Policy Scheme provided by CIC Life Business Policy, a fact he knew to be false.

Kariuki is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 2nd June 2022 and 3rd August 2023 at unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, with intent to defraud.

The accused is also charged with obtaining Sh 80,005 meant for Medical Insurance Premiums from Angela Syong’ombe Chege through Mpesa by falsely pretending that he was in a position to procure and initiate a Medical Insurance Cover for her from CIC Life Insurance Limited, a fact he knew to false.

In addition, Kariuki is also charged with stealing Sh 7,927 meant for comprehensive motor vehicle insurance premiums for motor vehicles registration numbers KBQ 933H and KCH 977D insured by Esther Mulekye Chege and Rina Njoki Chege respectively, being the property of CIC General Insurance Limited.

He denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi and was released on a cash bail of Sh 80,000.

The matter will be mentioned on 11th September 2024 for pre-trial.
