Court orders detention of Money Fest and Matrix Matatus pending NTSA regulations compliance

A Nairobi traffic court has ordered Money Fest 001 and Matrix Matatus to be detained until they comply with traffic and National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) rules.

Principal Magistrate Eric Otieno also ordered the drivers of the said matatus, Leonard Muasya Kituu and Dickson Wambua Masya to be reporting to the traffic base Commander, Central, once a week until they comply.

The above orders were issued after the two drivers denied charges of causing obstruction, operating public service vehicle without license, operating matatu without number plates and failing to wear uniform.

Money Fest and Matrix which form part of the infamous nganya matatus in Kenya are allegedly owned by the son of a top politician in Kenya.

Kituu is accused that on the 21st March, 2025 at about 0700hrs along Kenneth Matiba road within the Nairobi area being the driver of motor vehicle reg. No. KDQ 111T Make Isuzu mini bus branded as “MONEY FEST 001” and “Matrix” you did obstruct or cause inconvenience to other road users by making a u-turn and driving on the wrong side.

Masya is accused that on 20th March, 2025 at about 2000hrs along Kenneth Matiba road within the Nairobi area being the driver of motor vehicle reg. No.KDN 429N Make Isuzu mini bus Matatu branded as “MATRIX” failed to obey the direction given by a police officer in uniform in the execution of duty (he refused to drive back on the right side of the road and continued to drive on the wrong side even after being instructed by a police officer).

In addition, the two drivers were charged with failure to wear a service badge.

They denied the charges and were released on a cash bail of Sh 50,000 each.

The two matatus which have been accused of causing mayhem on the roads.
