Michael Isaac Ombuoro, the father to a boy who was left paralyzed during a dental procedure has told court that his son had no known medical issues before the dental procedure.
Ombuoro was giving his testimony before Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego against the anaesthesiologist who administered anesthesia to his son leaving him paralyzed.
Anesthesiologist Geoffrey King’ang’a Muiruri was later charged with negligence and causing grievous harm to the boy.p
According to the father, on 16th August 2015, he took his son to Eurodent Center in Westlands for the said dental procedure.
The father said he was introduced to the anaesthesiologist by surgeon, Sunil Vinayak.
Ombuoro said after arriving at the clinic, he was never given a chance to ask questions.
“There wasn’t much time to ask questions nor a window to be told merits and demerits of the surgery,” the sad father said.
It was his testimony that after the introductions, they dad and his then partner were asked to leave the room.
Some minutes later, Ombuoro was told by the dentist that his son was unwell and needed to be admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
“The lead surgeon did not inform me what had happened.
He just said he needs to be admitted in the ICU,” Ombuoro added.
The father testified that Dr muiruri called Agha khan hospital for to secure a bed in the ICU but failed. However, he managed to reserve one at MP Shah Hospital.

According to Dr muiruri, he performed CPR when the patient suffered a cardiac arrest and later accompanied the father to MP Shah.
A report by a doctor at MP Shah indicated that the boy suffered systolic ventilatory failure.
Ombuoro said refuted claims that his son had underlying medical conditions.
According to him, his son had never undergone surgery before; was not suffering from a cold, no heart problems, no allergies and neither was he asthmatic.
Muiruri is accused of causing grievous harm and negligence on 26th August 2016 at Eurodent Center in Westlands, Nairobi, in the course of a dental medical procedure.
He is also accused of recklessly and negligently administering anesthesia to Ombuoro’s son, endangering his life.
The hearing will continue on 28th July 2025.
