Five police officers based at Gigiri police station have been produced in court over the escape of suspected serial killer Collins Jumaisi and 12 Eritrean nationals from the station.

The officers Corporal Ronald Babo, Police Constables Evans Kipkirui, Mollent Achieng, Zachary Nyabuto and Gerald Mutuku were present before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi.

The investigators want the court to grant them orders to detain the five officers for 14 days pending the conclusion of investigations.

The court heard that investigations have established that the said officers had a hand in the escape of the prisoners.

In his affidavit, Inspector Benedict Kaulu states that the officers were on duty on 19th August 2024 when the suspects allegedly escaped from custody.

He added that the investigators want time to record statements, get the forensic report from their phones and CCTV footage which have been submitted to the cybercrime unit for analysis.

Further, the court heard that there are other accomplices who are at large and the respondents have indicated their willingness assist in their arrest.

The magistrate will deliver the ruling on the application on 22nd August 2024.
