A former Equity Bank employee has been charged with stealing Sh 2.1 million from the lender.
Francis Njuguna Kamau is accused of stealing Sh 1,752,107.94 from an Equity Bank account on diverse date between 26th July and 24th August 2024 at Equity Bank, Makongeni Thika Branch.
Kamau who was fired in September 2025 after the incident is also accused of stealing Sh 443,691.40 from another account in the same bank.
He is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 9th and 10th July 2024, jointly with another already before court.
The accused person denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Ben-Mark Ekhubi and was granted a bond of Sh 400,000 plus one surety of a similar amount.
Alternatively, he can deposit a cash bail of Sh 250,000 and provide three contact persons.
The case will be mentioned on 28th July 2025 for pre-trial.
