A former employee of Printing Services Limited has been charged with forging a signature of the company’s Managing Director.
Cheekati Narasimha Rao is accused of forging the signature of Managing Director Malkiat Singh Dhillon on a letter of appointment promoting himself to the position of Production Manager of Printing Services Limited, purporting it to have been signed by Dhillon.
Rao is alleged to have committed the offense on 1st April, 2010 at unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, with intent to deceive.
He denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi.
The complainant, through lawyer Kimani Wachira told the court that while granting the accused person bail, it should take into consideration the fact that he is still under investigation for an offense of stealing by servant.
Wachira told the court that the DCI is investigating a case where Rao is alleged to have stolen Sh 220 million by virtue of his employment.
However, the defense told the court that Rao is not at flight risk since he has been cooperative even while out on anticipatory bail.
After considering the submissions by all parties, the magistrate granted Rao a bond of Sh 500,000 plus one surety of a similar amount.
Alternatively, he can deposit a cash bail of Sh 200,000 and provide one contact person to secure his release pending the hearing and determination of the case.
In addition, the court ordered Rao to deposit his passport in court. He is not leave the jurisdiction of the country without permission of the trial Magistrate.
