Four Obamana Sacco employees suspected to be involved in the murder of the rival Obamana Links Limited stage manager have arraigned in court.

Hannington Oloo Ogumbo, Duncan Ochola, Vitalis Owino and Daniel Ochieng Ojwang were arraigned before Senior Principal Magistrate Ben-Mark Ekhubi.

The police are seeking 21 days to detain them to conclude investigations into the murder of Dickson Otieno Ombaka on 2nd August 2025.

The deceased was stabbed at the Obamana stage in Uyoma street, along Temple Road in Nairobi CBD during an altercation over collection of passengers.

According to an affidavit by the investigating officer PC Pwoka Mauka, the matter was reported by one David Omondi Ombaka,a brother to the deceased, on 3rd August at 0135hrs

The brother reported that he was contacted by a stage attendant at Obamana stage who informed him that his brother had been stabbed and rushed to MSF (Medicins Sans Frontier) hospital along Juja road.

“The reporter rushed to the said facility and found out that his brother had already succumbed to the stab wound which caused excessive bleeding.

PC Mauka told the court that the respondents, while in the company of others not before court, attacked the deceased while on duty at his place of work at around 2130 hours, stabbed him and ran away. This was after an altercation between the two factions working for the different matatu Sacco.

Preliminary investigations revealed that there has been a long time conflict between Obamana sacco and Obamana Links Ltd over a dropping and picking spaces along temple road.

The two PSV Saccos were once a single entity before a breakaway group rebranded themselves Obamana Links thus claiming passenger dropping and picking spaces they initially used to operate from.

It has been reported that there has been various incidents of fighting over passenger dropping and picking space which has resulted in fatal injuries by stabbing.

“These incidents have become a growing area of concern because they are now chronic and should be dealt with in the seriousness,” the officer added.

The court heard that the investigators need time to take the respondents for mental assessment at Kenyatta National Hospital, conduct an identification parade, conduct autopsy to confirm the cause of death, among others.
