Huduma Center employee and another charged with fraud in fake government housing deal

Two people have been charged with obtaining Sh 1.6 million from unsuspecting victims in a fake government housing deal. 

Fredrick Gichuhi Njenga and Huduma Center employee Sheila Kamathi are accused of obtaining Sh 621,000 from Simon Ngigi Kamau in pretence that they would facilitate him to acquire affordable government funded houses located at Park Road in Ngara, Nairobi, which were ready for sale under tenant purchase scheme. 

The two are further charged with obtaining different amounts of money from five other victims under the same pretence. 

Njenga and Kamathi are also facing several charges of conspiracy to defraud. 

They are alleged to have committed the offences on diverse dates between 17th September 2021 and 24th January 2022.

The duo denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo and were released on a cash bail of Sh 200,000 each.
