Indian man found with gun, military jacket released on bail

An Indian man nabbed with a pistol, bullets, a military smoke jacket among other items has been released on cash bail.

Senior Principal Magistrate Kenneth Cheruiyot granted Hirji Ramji Patel a cash bail of Sh 1 million after the police failed to prove why they should continue to detain him for seven more days.

Investigating officer Corporal Lawrence Irungu had requested for seven days to detain Patel to complete investigations into extortion and being in possession of drugs allegations.

“The suspect is a principal offender and upon completion of the investigations, he is to be charged with extortion among other offences,” the investigator said.

Irungu stated that due to the nature of the complaint presented, I have information that the accused person has influence from his associates and his influence and capability may interfere with witness with one of the state witnesses, being a single mother of two kids.

According to the investigator, the items recovered were a Czeska pistol, 27 rounds of ammunition with an expired licence, 22 rounds of 357 Sig ammo and a firearm certificate which needs to be verified by the firearms licensing board.
