Johnson Muthama’s ex partner charged with forging child’s birth certificate

Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama’s estranged partner has been charged with forging her child’s birth certificate.

Nina Maria Wanjiku was charged after the politician filed a complainant with the police over the issue.

Wanjiku is accused that on 28th January 1998 in Nairobi, with intent to deceive and without lawful authority or excuse made a certificate of birth NO. 300868 purporting it to be a genuine certificate issued by the Civil Registrar of birth in Thika.

In addition, the accused person is charged with uttering a false document.

The court heard that on 21st May 1998 at Nairobi immigration offices knowingly and fraudulently uttered the said certificate purporting it to be a valid document issued by Civil Registrar of Birth, Thika.

Wanjiku denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Ben-Mark Ekhubi.

The accused person told the court that she was dragged from Mombasa to Nairobi by DCI officers and spent the night at Gigiri Police Station.

According to Wanjiku, she and Muthama have been embroiled in court battles for over 10 years.

She told the court that she did not understand why she was detained yet she has always presented herself to the police whenever required.

The magistrate released her on a cash bail of Sh 50,000 and one contact person.
