A Kenyan and a German national have been charged with obtaining Sh 21 million in a fake gold consignment shipping.
Julius Kirimi Muthuri, 41, and Richard Heineg Olaf, 61, are accused of obtaining USD 163,490 (approx. Sh 21,090,210) from Roger Gahwiler by pretending that they were in a position tp facilitate transportation of an alleged gold consignment weighing 700 KGS and USD 30 million in cash purportedly belonging to Gahwiler.
The alleged consignments were to be transported from Kenya to Turkey.
The duo is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 14th November 2023 and 4th March 2024 at unknown place within Kenya.
In addition, Muthuri and Olaf are charged with conspiracy to commit an offense of stealing.
The two denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Robinson Ondieki.
The prosecution opposed their release on bail on grounds that they are a flight risk.
However, their lawyer opposed the application claiming that the accused persons are not a flight risk since they are businessmen with families and fixed places of abode.
The court will deliver its ruling on the application on 13th September 2024.
