Liberian charged with stealing gold worth Sh 54 million at JKIA

A Liberian national has been charged in Nairobi with stealing gold worth Sh 54 million.

Carace Ownze Toomey is accused of gold bars weighing 6.483 Kgs at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport while on transit, the property of the said Shammugam Sundar Darmaraju.

Toomey is also accused that on diverse dates between 30th March 2023 and 4th April 2023 at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before court, conspired to commit a felony namely stealing the said gold bars from Darmaraju.

He denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi.

The case will be mentioned on 17th April for consolidation with other cases and grant of bail.
