A man suspected to be behind a series of death threats against Samburu Nomonated Senator Hezena Lemaletian has been arraigned in court.
Alex Anyolo Kikuyu was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina under a miscellaneous application seeking seven days custodial orders for investigations to be finalized.
The senator reported the matter to the Director of Criminal Investigations leading to the arrest of the suspect.
According to the senator, she was in her office at Bunge Towers when she received a series of threatening messages via WhatsApp.
Upon arrest, Kikuyu is said to have been in possession on three mobile phones with sim cards.
In addition, the suspect was also in possession of 10 Airtel sim cards and 23 Safaricom card holders ehose IMEI numbers were produced in court.
The investigating officer Inspector George Ndung’u stated that the gadgets and sim cards needs to be subjected to forensic analysis to get the subscribers’ details and data.
The officer also claimed that the suspects bank and mobile money accounts statements need to be obtained to verify the information recorded in the statement.
Inspector Ndung’u added that the suspect is a flight risk should he be released on bail before conclusion of investigations.
While responding to the application, Ndung’u stated that he is not a flight and would not interfere with investigations.
He told the court he is a family man with a fixed place of abode in Buruburu.
In his ruling, the magistrate found that the prosecution had failed to establish the likelihood of the respondent to interfere with investigations.
The court ruled that the gadgets are in the possession of the police hence the suspect cannot interfere with investigations.
“I am not convinced that there is any compelling reason to warrant continued detention of the respondent,” the magistrate ruled.
For the above reasons, Kikuyu was released on a cash bail of Sh 20,000 pending conclusion of investigations.
The case will be mentioned on 16th February 2026.
