Man charged over Sh 200M Westlands land fraud

A man has been charged with Sh 200 million Westlands land fraud.

Juma Luande Mudogo who is charged alongside Michael Njenga Waweru is accused of conspiring to defraud Jane Wairimu Mwangi her parcel of Land Reference No.1870/VI/80 located in Westland area in Nairobi County measuring approximately 0.2020 Ha valued at Sh 200 million.

Mudogo is said to have done so by falsely claiming that he was allocated the land by the Commissioner of lands, a fact he knew to be false.

The accused is alleged to have committed the offense on unknown date and place within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before court.

According to the charge sheet, the two are also facing charges of making false documents.

It is alleged that on or before 2nd October, 2007 at unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, with intent to defraud Mwangi of her parcel land, without lawful authority or excuse made a letter of allotment Ref; No. 45445/14 dated 2nd October 2007 for Extension of Lease in favor of Michael Njenga Waweru , purporting it to be a genuine document issued by Department of Lands and signed by Onyiro O. Mukobe, for Commissioner of Lands.

The accused persons are also accused that on or before 5th October, 2010, at unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, with intent to defraud, and without lawful authority or excuse, made a certain document namely a Letter of Allotment for Renewal of  Lease Ref; 45445/21 dated 5th October, 2010 in favor of Waweru purporting it to be a genuine document issued by Department of Lands and signed by F. K. Kahuho for Commissioner of Lands.

Luande denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi and was released on a cash bail of Sh 300,000.

However, Waweru did not appear in court to plead to the charges.
