Man charged with impersonating Magistrate, defrauding 200K for judiciary job

A man has been charged with obtaining Sh 200,000 from a job seeker by pretending to be a magistrate capable of facilitating her employment.

Bernard Kipkurui is accused of obtaining the money from Joan Chepkoech by falsely pretending that he was in a position to facilitate employment as a clerk in the judiciary, a fact he knew to be false.

The accused is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 28th April 2024 and 3rd May 2024 in Nairobi CBD with intent to defraud.

Kipkurui is also charged with impersonating a magistrate on 24th April 2024.

It is alleged that he falsely represented himself to Chepkoech to be an employee of The Judiciary as a Magistrate stationed at Nyahururu Law Courts.

He denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi and was released on a cash bail of Sh 100,000.

The case will be mentioned on 14th May for pre-trial.
