A car dealer has been charged with Sh 2.5 million fraud after failing to import a tractor for a client.
John Mulwale Esonga is accused of obtaining the Sh 2,594,000 from Musa Ochieng Ayiecho by falsely pretending that he was in a position to assist him to import a New Holland T75 Tractor, a fact he knew to be false.
Esonga, 34, is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 11th and 13th December 2024 at Kenya Commercial Bank, Upper Hill Branch in Nairobi.
He denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego.
The prosecution opposed Esonga’s release on bail on rounds that he a flight risk and likely to interfere with witnesses.
According to an affidavit by the investigating officer Stephen Kibei, the accused person attempted to flee during his arrest within Jogoo Road area after a long trail.
“After the matter was reported, the accused went into hiding only to arrested after a long trail,” the officer said.
The investigator added that Esonga is likely to interfere with witnesses who are well known to him and their residences.
The case will be mentioned on 17th February after the defense respond to the custodial application.
