A Nairobi court has cancelled the bail of a cameroonian national charged in Sh 3.3 million gold scam.

Fabonou Wassou Joseph De-Dieu alias Joseph Kabongo Malika was charged with conspiring with others to defraud Hayet Amri of USD 26000 (Apprx. Sh 3.3 million)by falsely pretending that he was in a position to sell to her an alleged gold consignment weighing twenty kilogram from Kenya to Dubai, a fact he knew to be false.

De-Dieu is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 1st May and 9th August 2024 in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, jointly with others not before court.

Trial Magistrate Dolphina Alego cancelled his bail terms after the court was informed that he had attempted to leave Kenya for Philippines.

The prosecution told the court that De-Dieu was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on his way to Philippines after replacing his passport.

However, while pleading with the court not to cancel his bail, the accused person told the court that he was travelling outside the country for surgery and was to return within five days.

It was his submission that he replaced his passport because it had expires.

Dissatisfied with De-Dieu’s explanation, the magistrate cancelled his bail immediately.
