The owner of the premises that hosts Nairobi’s Trattoria restaurant has moved to court seeking to be allowed to institute contempt proceedings against the owner, Nairobi County government and the two county officials.

Joannah Wanjiku Maina accuses the four of disobeying court orders issued in 2017 requiring them to remove items blocking fire exits and assembly points at the premises.

Through lawyer Kethi Kilonzo, Maina wants the High Court to summon the owner of the popular restaurant Gaetano Ruffo to show cause why he should not be cited for contempt of court for disobeying court orders.

She also wants Nairobi County Government attorney and County Executive Committee member in charge of health, wellness and nutrition be summoned to show cause why they  should not be cited for contempt.

“The respondents have failed, refused and neglected to enforce the removal of items that are blocking the fire exits and fire assembly points of L.R No. 209/2362, therefore posing a threat to public health,” the Landlady said.
