Nominated Senator and songwriter Crystal Asige has told court how she was kicked out of Sol Generation Music without due compensation.
Asige testified how Bien-Aime Baraza, Polycarp Otieno, Willis Chimano and Delvin Mudigi kept her in meeting that was almost an hour long on 17th November 2019 trying to explain to her that they no longer needed her at the lebel.
The visually impaired senator told Justice Njoki Mwangi that Sauti Sol breached the contract by firing her claiming the lebel was broke.
“They gave me reasons that did not seem to fall together because in that meeting, they had already come pre-dermined, there was no meeting of the minds,” Asige said.
Asige has sued KLM Royal Dutch Airlines who exclusively released her record “Lenga” on their Facebook platform.
In her testimony, Asige said she composed her own sound recording ‘Lenga’ allegedly released exclusively on KLM’s Facebook platform.
However, she said that Sol Generation made a deal with the airline without her consent.
The court heard that Bien, who was the first one to speak at the said meeting began by admitting that he knew that her experience at the lebel had not been good.
“He then went on to let me know that they had decided not to continue with me,” she added.
Asige further testified that when she tried to enquire about the 360 Artist Development Agreement, she was dismissed by being told that even international music star Burner Boy who had also collaborated with the group, accepts the terms.
In their defense, Sauti Sol, through their lawyer denied the allegations by Asige claiming that she was granted all the master rights of the sound recording titled “Lenga”
The politician further testified that said she was reliably informed that Sol Generation received approximately Sh 5 million for the use of her “Lenga” song.
In her case, Asige wants the court to compel the artists to disclose how much they have received from hit songs Lenga, Extravaganza, Ukiwa Mbali, Intro and Favourite Song from 2019.
