Nurses accused of burning police officers with acid in Ngara arraigned in court

Two nurses who allegedly poured acid on police officers after they were found operating an unregistered clinic in Ngara, Nairobi have been produced in court.

Investigating officer Corporal Deten Saidimu told the court that they are seeking to detain John Kipsiror Murori and Mwaura Karumbi for 14 days to allow them to conclude investigations.

In his affidavit, Saidimu told Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe that they are yet to complete investigations into the above offenses and several others.

John Kipsiror Murori and Mwaura Karumbi were suspected of operating an unregistered health facility and procuring abortion prompting the officers to pay them a visit.

The court heard that when the officers visited Ngara Medical Center and knocked on the door, Murori opened it and without any hesitation, lased the officers with acid.

“The officers sustained severe burns on their bodies and were rushed to Nairobi West Hospital where they are admitted in High Depency Unit (HDU),” the officer said

Saidimu added that the condition of the three victims is yet to be ascertained.

He added that the officers who were admitted at Nairobi West hospital needs to be issued with p3 and record their statement.

The officer further told the court that he needs to detain the suspects to enable the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board,  Kenya Nursing Council, KMPDU to visit the the facility and conduct investigations as to suitability to operate as a medical hospital.

He added that they also need to forward suspected human organs and  liquid substance to government chemist for analysis.

In addition, the officer said they also need to examine the assorted drugs found in the facility.

Saidimu said that the two suspects are at flight risk should they be released on bail before investigations are concluded.

Murori is said to be from Pokot and considering the seriousness of the offense, he might abscond if released on bail.

The two were arrested alongside three patients one of whom was a lady who was in the process of procuring abortion.

The was taken to Mbagathi hospital and is currently admitted in a serious condition.

The court will deliver the ruling on 28th November 2024.
