Student charged with stealing Sh 1.1M from National Bank

A student college student has been charged with stealing over Sh 1.1 million from National Bank of Kenya Limited.

Giddion Kibett Langat is accused of stealing Sh 1,173,352.20 on 22nd January 2025 at unknown place, jointly with others not before court.

Alternatively, Langat is charged with the offense of handling stolen property.

According to the charge sheet, otherwise than in the course of stealing, the accused person dishonestly received the said money knowing or having reasons to believe it to be stolen.

Langat denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Ben-Mark Ekhubi.

He pleaded with the court to grant him lenient cash bail on grounds that he was a student and was willing to attend court.

In his ruling, the magistrate found that Langat had not availed any evidence that he was a student.

The magistrate went ahead to grant him a cash bail of Sh 300,000 with two contact persons.
