Seven suspects in the Sh 60 million government ambulance fake tender have been charged.
The suspects include Michael Musyoki Ngumbi, Evans Simotwo, Geoffrey Were Odondi, Allan Mutahi Kariuki, Purity Njeri Njamiu, Muniaro Jared Masinde and Kororia Simatwa.
Another suspect, Rose Mbuthia did not appear in court for plea taking and summons were issued for her to appear.
According to the charge sheet, the suspects are accused of conspiring to defraud Talal Yousef Yousef Zaitoun, through Lianyungang Chanta International Wood Company Limited USD 470,750 (Apprx. Sh 60 million)by falsely pretending that they were in a position to assist him in securing a contract agreement from the Kenyan Government for the supply and delivery of 500 high roof diesel Toyota Hiace ambulances, a fact they knew to be false.
It is alleged that the offense was committed between 10th January and 25th February 2026 in Nairobi, jointly with others not before and with intent to defraud.
dondi is also charge with obtaining the said money from Zaituon by falsely pretending that he was in a position to assist him get the said tender.
He is alleged to have committed the offense between 10th January and 30th February 2026 in Nairobi, jointly with others not before court.
In addition, Odondi is charged with acquisition of proceeds of crime. The court heard that he acquired the USD 470,750 through an Equity bank account in the name of Damira Multiactivities whilst at the time, knew or reasonably ought to have known that the said money was or formed part of proceeds of crime.
On the other hand, Ngumbi is facing two count of forgery. He is alleged to have forged a contract agreement between the Ministry of Interior and National Administration and Jokara AB for the supply of 500 Right Hand Drive roof Diesel Toyota Hiace Ambulances, a contract which is undated by purporting it to be a genuine Contract issued by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.
Ngumbi is also alleged to have forged a letter of notification of award reference MINA/JKR/AMB/1/26 for the supply and delivery of the said ambulances during the financial year(s) 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 by purporting it to be a genuine letter of award issued by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.
The seven denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Theresa Nyangena and were granted a bond of Sh 5 million each.
Alternatively, each accused person can deposit a cash bail of Sh 300,000 and provide two contact persons to secure their release pending determination of the case.
In addition, the court ordered the accused persons to deposit their passports in court as additional security.
The case will be mentioned on 1st April 2026 for pre-trial directions.
