Woman charged with Sh 2M fraud in National Police Service recruitment

A woman has been charged with defrauding job seeking Kenyans over two million shillings by pretending she could get them recruited in the National Police Service (NPS).

Alice Nyawira is accused of obtaining Sh 2,070,000 from Margaret Wangui Njuguna by falsely pretending that she was in a position to facilitate her four friends to get recruited in the NPS, a fact she knew to be false.

Nyawira is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 18th November and 25th December 2025 in Nairobi, jointly with another not before court.

In addition, the accused person is facing charges acquisition and use of proceeds of crime.

According to the charge sheet, Nyawira allegedly acquired the said money in her three Mpesa accounts having reason to believe that the said sum formed part or was proceeds of crime.

She denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Theresia Nyangena and was granted a cash bail of Sh 500,000.

The case will be mentioned on 17th March 2026 for pre-trial.
