Women accused of defrauding Kenyans over 175 million charged

Two women accused of obtaining over Sh 175 million from members of the public for the sale of houses at West Park Police estate have been charged.

Mary Ndunge Mutuku and Mary Wanjiru Ndung’u are charged with obtaining the money ranging from Sh 700,000 to Sh 87 million from different people between 2015 and 2022.

In one of the counts, the two women are accused of obtaining Sh 87,742,000 from Michael Kariuki Wanjohi and Salome Wanjiru Kariuki by falsely pretending that they were in a position to sell to them houses at the said estate.

Mary Mutuku is also charged with obtaining Sh 25,500,000 from Stephen Njire Waithaka under the same pretence.

The two face several other charges of obtaining money and forgery.

Mutuku is accused of forging a Wilson Mutumba Group payment application letter dated 11th August 2021 purporting it to have been issued by the Ministry of labour and social protection.

The two denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo.
