The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has moved to court over the exaggerated price of a fire engine for Isiolo County Government.

The commission wants the court to declare that the tender process undertaken to purchase Isiolo County fire engines was unlawful.

The defendants are Ali Wako, Dr Salad Sarite, John Nkuraru, Kennedy Murimi, Abdinasir Ali, Qanchora Abduba, Jabril Hassan, Bashir Mamo and Sinotruk.

The anti-graft agency seeks the court to enter judgement against the respondents for Sh 58, 560,000

“In the alternative, Sh 33,060,000 against the defendants jointly and severally,” the commission said.

EACC said it has established that the Turkish Ivaco fire engine supplied to the Isiolo County Government as opposed to a Sinotruk was supplied at an exaggerated price of Sh 58,560,000 whereas the market value for the same does not exceed Sh 25,500,000.

“The contract of Sh 58,560,000 paid under foresaid contract constitutes proceeds of corruption or corrupt conduct which the agency is entitled to seek recovery,” EACC said.

The commission wants a declaration that tender NO. ICG/003/2017/2018 for the purchase and delivery of the fire engine was in breach of the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act 2015 and the Public Procurement and Disposal Regulations of 2006.
