Chinese woman charged for selling food under unsanitary conditions

A Chinese woman busted with game meat and ivory along three others has been charged with selling food under unsanitary.

Shang Li Yan is accused of preparing food for sale namely 65 kilograms of read meat,65 kilograms of uncleaned fish, raw chicken, pork, crab fish, and 95 kilograms of assorted white and red meat while the said food was being sold under unsanitary condition and without certification from public health office.

She is alleged to have committed the offence 8th January at Aberdare court in Kilimani area Nairobi jointly with others not before court.

The suspect is also accused of preparing for sale expired canned fish to wit 5 cartons each containing 24 pieces of 250 grams.

She denied the charged before Principal magistrate Kenneth Cheruiyot.

She was however not granted bail until the miscellaneous application which gave orders to detain her and three others is determined.

The other suspects who were detained for five days to allow police complete investigations are Xing Wei Zhang Jie and David Maseno Oseko.

Police recovered two polished elephant tasks, two human sculpted ivories, five assorted ivory bangles, seven beaded ivory necklaces valued at Sh 4 million, one leopard skin valued at Sh 500,000, one rhino horn valued at Sh 1.8 million among others in their house.

The police went do destroy the said meat after the court viewed it since it cannot be preserved until the hearing date of the case.
