Congolese national charged in Sh 25M gold scam

A Congolese national has been charged in a Nairobi court with defrauding a foreigner Sh 25 million for gold.

Nfundiko Kamira Jean Marie is accused of obtaining USD 200,100 (Apprx Sh 25,812,900) from Tanner Caldwell Cook by falsely pretending that he was in a position to him 50Kgs of gold, a fact he knew to be false.

Jean Marie is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 27th May and 31st July 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya, jointly with others not before court.

He denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina.

Through lawyer Cliff Ombeta, Danstan Omari and Sam Nyaberi, the accused made an application to be released on lenient bail terms.

However, the magistrate directed that he be presented in a court handling a similar matter on 6th May 2025 for bail directions.
