A man has been charged with obtaining Sh 6.7 million by pretending he was in a position to sell gold nuggets.

Eugene Musilwa Pedro is accused of obtaining USD 50,000 (apprx Sh 6.7 million) from Mnguni Mbulelo Ludger by falsely pretending that he was in a position to sell to him 500 kilograms of gold nuggets, a fact he knew to be false.

Pedro is alleged to have committed the offense on between 16th and 17th April 2024 in Kilimani, Nairobi, jointly with others not before and with intent to defraud.

The accused is also charged with conspiring with others not before court to defraud Ludger the said money.

He denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi.

His efforts to plead with the court to grant him a cash bail of Sh 100,000 were futile after he was slapped with a bond of Sh 2 million plus one surety of a similar amount.

The court also granted him the option of a cash bail of Sh 1 million and produce two contact persons.
