Nairobi woman charged with Sh 1.9M fraud in rose coco beans supply

A Nairobi businesswoman has been charged with cheating a trader to  to supply beans worth over Sh 1.9 million to Unga Limited.

Esther Waiyura Kibutu is accused of inducing George Mwiti to deliver 11,340 tonnes of Amana rose coco beans worth Sh 1,927,800 to Unga limited by falsely pretending that she would remit to him payments received from Unga Limited Kenya, a fact she knew to be false.

Kibutu is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 7th and 20th November 2025 in Nairobi, with intent to defraud.

The accused person is also facing two counts of issuing bad cheques to Taifa Smart Holdings Limited.

According to the charge sheet, Kibutu issued two cheques for Sh 900,000 each to Taifa Smart Holdings knowing the account had insufficient funds to the cheques.

Kibutu is alleged to have issued the said cheques on 23rd and 30th January 202.

She denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Theresa Nyangena and was released on a cash bail of Sh 100,000 and one contact person.

The case will be mentioned on 24th March 2026 for pre-trial directions.
