Three charged with Sh 4.3M fraud in fake plutonium sale

Three men have been charged with Sh 4.3 million fraud in a non-existent plutonium sale deal.

Raphael Kakule Ojiambo, Samuel Ayako Kerandi and Wilfred Gitonga Kaburu are also accused of being in possession of fake dollars.

According to the charge sheet, on 17th January 2025 at Lutherman Plaza in Nairobi, the trio was found in possession of 11,783 intended to resemble and pass as US dollars currency.

Ojiambo and Kerandi are also charged with obtaining Sh 4,358,000 from Festus Jason Ochola by falsely pretending that they were in a position to offer him a commission after sale of the plutonium.

The two are alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 20th November and 31st December 2024, jointly with others not before court.

In addition, Ojiambo and Kerandi are accused of conspiring with others not before court to defraud Ochola the said money.

The three denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi.

Ojiambo and Kerandi were granted a cash bail of Sh 500,000 each and a contact person while Kaburu was granted a cash bail of Sh 200,000 and provide one contact person.

The case will be mentioned on 10th February 2025 for pre-trial.
