Man charged with fraud after failing to reserve rooms at Serena Hotel

A man has been charged with Sh 1.2 million fraud after failing to book guests at Serena Hotel in Nairobi.

Hillary Kinyata Ogola is accused of obtaining USD 9,830 (Apprx. Sh 1,277,900 from Kingoina Israel Erick by falsely pretending that he was in a position to book accommodations for his clients, a fact he knew to be false.

Ogola is alleged to have committed the offense on the diverse dates between 3rd March 2025 to 29th

August 2025, at Nairobi Serena Hotel in Nairobi with intent to defraud.

The accused person is also charged with forging a proforma invoice dated 27th February 2025 and a payment receipt dated 3rd March 2025 purporting it them to be genuine, issued by Nairobi Serena Hotel.

In addition, Ogola is charged with uttering false documents.

He denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina and was released on a cash bail of Sh 200,000.
