Mike Sonko testifies in defamation suit by lawyer Lucy Momanyi

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has testified in a case in which he has been sued by lawyer Lucy Momanyi for defamation.

Appearing before Justice Janet Mulwa, Sonko told the vourt that he never defamed the lawyer back in 2015 during an interview on KTN’s Morning Express show.

According to Sonko, he was just trying to help the widow of his family friend James Simon Bellhouse from being swindled by the lawyer who was the executor of his will.

Sonko stated that his utterances stemed from an article published in the media in which Momanyi had issued a statement indicating that he was a convict and had participated in her being swindled Sh 16 million.

“I responded and also accused her of seeking to swindle the widow of the late James Bellhouse of her property,” he added.

The court heard that the lawyer had allegedly included herself as a beneficiary of the estate of Bellhouse but gave back the properties once the matter escalated.

Sonko averred that he had no script during the April 1st 2015 Morning Express show and was only responding to questions asked by the hosts.

After his testimony, the defendants closed their case and the court directed the matter to mentioned on 25th June 2026 for highlighting of submissions.
