Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera has threatened legal action against Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula over defamatory remarks.
The said remarks, which went as far as to include statements about Nabwera’s HIV status were made during the burial of Munyuki Secondary school principal Simon Isiaho Shange in respect to his death.
According to a demand letter to Savula dated 14th January 2025, the said remarks are extremely vicious, inaccurate, derogatory, defamatory and geared at tarnishing and maligning the MP’s name.
Through his lawyer Danstan Omari, Nabii Nabwera claims that on 25th November 2025, at Ludodo village in Likuyani Sub-County, within Kakamega County, Savula took to the podium during the burial of the late Principal and made the defamatory remarks against him in respect of the death, by accident, of the said principal.
“Your unhinged, unprovoked and politically calculated statements, geared at tarnishing and maligning our client’s name, went to the extent of purporting to air his HIV status, of which you lack the slightest of clues, hence the statement was extremely injurious to his leadership, mentorship and political as well as multi -national career and reputation,” Omari.
Omari noted that Savula’s capacity, both as the incumbent Deputy Governor of the County Government of Kakamega, and a former two-time Lugari Constituency member of parliament, has a considerably sizeable following and support, hence his words, in such a heated and emotionally provocative tone and event have far-reaching effects.
“The said words and statements pose a security and reputational affront to the painstakingly built and developed influence our client commands, world over, hence injurious to him and to his family, personally, and his constituents, severally, he added.
Savula’s statements are said to be false, inaccurate, and ill-intended, geared at maligning, tainting and dragging Nabwera’s efforts and service to the people of Lugari constituency in bad light, in a bid to settle political scores.
“Our client, further demands that should you find reason to prove his HIV and AIDS status in your seemingly certain and enraged statements, he is ready and willing to have you and him, subjected to the said test in a public set up, by reputational Laboratories and Centers, to verify and disclose the said status,” Omari said.
Nabii Nabwera wants the Deputy Governor to issue unequivocal public apology, in the nature, verve, enthusiasm and vigour, with which you maligned, defamed and derogated his name, person and influence.
He is also demanding tha Savula makes good the reputational and career dent occasioned on his pricelessly and painstakingly built and developed name, by compensating him Sh 100 million.
