Archprime Medical Clinic, Oyugis and five others have been charged with conspiracy to defraud the Social Health Authority (SHA) over Sh 17 million.
The suspects include Arthur Otula, Rosemary Daraja, Peter Abuna, Elijah Wachira and Robert Ingasira.
The suspects are accused that on diverse dates between October 2024 and 20th May 2025, at unknown place within Kenya, with intent to defraud jointly with others not before court conspired to defraud SHA Sh 17,591,473.
Otula, Daraja and Abuna are also charged with falsifying health information.
According to the charge sheet, the three accused persons fraudulently falsified information on medical claim forms and medical documents with intention to defraud the health fund and obtain a benefit not lawfully due under the Social Health Insurance Act.
The trio is alleged to have committed the offense on the above dates at Archprime Medical Clinic in Oyugis, Homabay County.
Otula, Daraja and the clinic are also charged with acquisition of proceeds of crime by fraudulently acquiring public funds amounting to Sh 17,591,473 by submitting false medical claims to SHA.
Daraja is further charges with several counts of uttering false medical records to SHA CEO purporting them to be genuine.
On the other hand, Wachira and Ingasira are charged with misappropriation of funds.
The court heard that on the same dates at SHA Headquarters in Nairobi, the two, while bestowed with management duties, jointly misappropriated funds amounting to Sh 17,591,473, the property of SHA.
Otula, Daraja, Abuna and Ingasira denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina.
Wachira did not appear in court to plead to the charges and was directed to do so next week.
The rest were released on a bond of Sh 800,000 with alternative cash bail of Sh 500,000.
