The chairman of Busia Robusta Coffee Growers Farmers Cooperative Limited has been charged defrauding a Tanzanian businessman Sh 6.1 million.
Leonard Morice Murwayi is accused of obtaining USD 47,600 (Apprx. Sh 6.1 million) from Abdulkarim Abdulrazak Ismail by pretending that he was in a position to sell him 19.2 tons of Robusta Coffee through Busia Robusta Coffee Growers Farmers Cooperative Limited, a fact he knew to be false.
Murwayi is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 27th September and 15th October 2024 at the Cooperative Bank Limited in Busia town, jointly with others not before court, with intent to defraud,
He denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina and was released on a bond of Sh 1 million plus one surety of a similar amount.
The case will be mentioned on 26th November 2025 for pre-trial.
