Businessman charged with possessing a firearm without valid licence

A businessman has been charged with being in possession of a firearm without a valid firearm certificate.

Samuel Wathika Gathuru is accused of possessing one Sig Sauer pistol without a valid licence.

Gathuru is alleged to have committed the offence on 3rd February 2023 at Bongani drive in Karen within Nairobi County without lawful authority or excuse.

The accused is also charged with being in possession of 393 ammunition without a valid certificate.

He is also charged with failing to comply with any condition to which a firearm is held by neglecting or failing to renew his firearm certificate.

Gathuru denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimilu and was released on a cash bail of Sh 200,000.
