Businesswoman Mary Wambui charged with possessing a gun without certificate

Businesswoman Mary Wambui is in court again, this time facing charges of being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

Wambui is accused that on diverse dates between 17th April and 1st December 2020 Nairobi, she unlawfully had in her possession a Pistol CZ 75 Compact (Mini ceska) serial No. A785965 without a firearm certificate.

The court also heard that Wambui unlawfully had in her possession twenty two (22) 9.9 mm calibre ammunition without a valid certificate.

The accused denied the charges before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo. 

She was released on a cash bail of Sh 50,000 pending the hearing and determination of her case.

Wambui was arrested on Wednesday 5th for allegedly being in possession of an unregistered firearm.

She was picked up by detectives from her Runda home and questioned before being taken to the Muthaiga police station where she spent the night.

Further, Wambui and her daughter Purity Njoki are currently facing a Sh 2.2 billion tax evasion case where they are out on bail.
