Couple charged after failing to pay for maize worth at Sh 1 million

A couple has been charged with obtaining maize worth over Sh 1 million by false pretences.

Friday Muthoni Kilema and John Mwenda Ieingo are accused of obtaining 94 bags of maize valued at Sh 500,000 and another 115 bags valued at Sh 608,608 from George Mwiti by falsely pretending that a check that was issued to him was good and valid order for the payment upon the KCB bank, KICC branch nairobi. 

The two are also charged with issuing bad cheques to Miriam Mwingirwa Makena to Posterity Millers Limited account amounting to Sh 1,108,608 knowing that the account had insufficient funds.

In addition, the two are accused that on or before 2nd December 2022, at Posterity Millers Limited in Athi River within Machakos county, they conspired with intent to defraud George Mwiti of 209 bags of maize valued at Sh 1,108,608.

The two denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul. They were released on a cash bail of Sh 500,000 each.

The court heard that the couple has another similar case where they are charged with obtaining 179 other bags of maize valued at Sh 1,015,424.

The case will be mentioned on 13th April 2023.
