The people of Mandera and the family whose kin was stabbed to death several days ago want the authorities to move with speed and arrest the perpetrators..

The family of the late Hashim Okash Mohammed who was killed by a foreigner believed to have fled to Somalia today stormed the office of the County Criminal Investigation Officer Pius Gitari seeking justice for their kin.

The CCIO promised to apprehend the killer who allegedly went into hiding in Somalia.

One of the murder suspects, Hajjio Maalim Nur is in custody and is expected in court next week to plead to murder charges.

Through lawyer Danstan Omari and Shadrack Wambui, the family wants all the culprits presented in court and charged.

“A case of murder can not be resolved using money by the community elders. A person’s life is not equal to any amount of money,” Shadrack told the community.

Shadrack added that Kenyan authorities should liaise with the Somalia authorities to arrest the culprits and bring them back to face justice.

The angry and disappointed community said that in the last two months, they have lost seven people through such killings and the culprits fled to neighbouring Somalia.

They blamed the insecurity on the issuance of identity cards to foreigners as the same people commit crime and continue crossing the border where they walk free.

The people of Mandera urged Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to act on the issue of crime and issuance of IDs to foreigners.
